Quite possibly the coolest computer add on ever the Optimus Keyboard is going to be available for pre order December 2006.

keyb_002.jpgThe Optimus keyboard seemed like nothing more than vaporware to most people after the original release date came and went without delivery.

The Optimus Keyboard was one of the highest rated stories on digg of 2006 with over 11,000 diggs.

“The Russian developers of the Optimus keyboard noted that the Art.Lebedev Studio will begin accepting pre-orders for the Optimus keyboard in December 2006 while the estimated ship date is sometime after next spring. The keyboard’s designer, Artemy Lebedev, has continually delayed the keyboard for a number of different reasons since its official announcement last January. The interesting looking keyboard immediately garnered attention from users because of the keyboard’s ability to allow users to customize every key for a number of different purposes.”

Here’s a post on the update

General Dynamics has a new system for Military Vehicles that protects them from incoming RPG’s by using an invisible force field

The Trophy active protection system creates a hemispheric protected zone around the vehicle where incoming threats are intercepted and defeated. It has three elements providing – Threat Detection and Tracking, Launching and Intercept functions. The Threat Detection and Warning subsystem consists of several sensors, including flat-panel radars, placed at strategic locations around the protected vehicle, to provide full hemispherical coverage. Once an incoming threat is detected identified and verified, the Countermeasure Assembly is opened, the countermeasure device is positioned in the direction where it can effectively intercept the threat. Then, it is launched automatically into a ballistic trajectory to intercept the incoming threat at a relatively long distance.

Imagine having an Ipod or laptop that runs on gasoline and gets 10 times more run time than a battery. Well its just around the corner.

MIT researchers are putting a tiny gas-turbine engine inside a silicon chip about the size of a quarter. The resulting device could run 10 times longer than a battery of the same weight can, powering laptops, cell phones, radios and other electronic devices.

Now you can polute with your Ipod!
