The Greatest Western Shootout Ever

I know the title itself is probably going to get me in trouble from the hordes of western fans but the shoot out in Open Range was amazing.

Young Guns, Tombstone and countless other John Wayne and Clint Eastwood films had great shootouts but the shootout in Open Range takes the cake. If Open Range was never made I would have easily proclaimed the shootout in Tombstone to be the best, but Open Range was made.

Robert Duvall and Kevin Costner are amazing actors and the movie was directed by Kevin Costner himself (a self proclaimed western buff). The main reason I think this is the best shootout ever is because it stands on its own as you will see below. You can watch just this shootout and not what led up to it and still be very impressed. It is very Hollywood and when people get shot they fly around, but that is what makes this a great shootout.

  2. I had forgotten (how could I?) how sustained these gun battles were, one firefight after the other, with brief interludes just so you can catch your breath. Thanks for putting these up! Great post!
