USA Hockey

Many may not care about (U.S.) hockey, or may not even know what they are watching right now; let me fill you in.
What USA hockey is doing right now will possibly go down as one of the biggest under dog run of one hockey team in the history of these Olympic events. Shades of 1980 run wild through this team, from the sweaters (jerseys for non hockey-folk) to the incredible under dog victory over Canada, to the hard fought 2 goal win the next round and now, on to a medal game once again.
The 2002 U.S. team also showed the kind of heart and intensity it takes to earn a medal in this kind of tournament, but it was a very different team. With names like Brett Hull, Brian Leetch, Mike Modano and Mike Richter (among many, many others) that team was filled with possibly this countries best crop of talent ever to put on a uniform. It also was a team filled with veterans, veterans who knew each other well and knew how to approach winning. Almost everyone of those guys were winners, most with a cup under their belt. This team is young, energetic, and with the exception of a core group of veterans, very raw when it comes to winning any kind of hardware. They are much closer to the kind of team that Herb Brooks assembled in 1980.
Congratulations to Team USA for advancing to the medal rounds; bring home that hardware, preferrably in gold, please!
